A Note From Our Founder
Khyrah G. Simpson
My journey as a social science researcher isn’t just professional—it’s personal. Growing up, I witnessed firsthand the devastating effects of systemic inequities. Both of my parents cycled in and out of the legal system, and the ripple effects of those experiences shaped my life in ways I could never ignore. I learned early on how deeply systems can harm individuals, families, and entire communities. Those experiences became the foundation of my commitment to dismantling inequities and fighting for change.
KGS Consulting was born out of that commitment. I knew I wanted to do more than just crunch numbers and create pretty reports. I wanted to build genuine partnerships with organizations who share my commitment to justice and equity. Every project we take on is an act of resistance—a chance to challenge systems that have caused harm and build evidence for the change we know is possible. I'm honored to support organizations that are transforming marginalized communities every day. I hope you’ll join me on the journey.
2013 - 2017:
Advocate on the Front Lines
I started my career as a service provider working directly with communities navigating the same systems that shaped my upbringing. I supported individuals facing incarceration, housing instability, mental health barriers, and addictions. Whether it was providing crisis support or connecting families to critical resources, I witnessed the resilience of individuals navigating oppressive systems.
Skills I Carry With Me: Emotional intelligence, active listening, crisis management, relationship building, and a deep understanding of the structural barriers communities face.
2013 - 2021:
Researcher Behind the Scenes
While continuing my direct service work, I decided to stop treating the symptoms of inequity, and start changing the systems they’re buried in. I transitioned into social science research, and realized that data has the power to tell stories, uncover truths, and drive systemic change. I evaluated programs, assessed outcomes, and amplified the voices of marginalized communities.
Skills I Carry With Me: Program evaluation, survey design, data collection and analysis, stakeholder facilitation, strategic planning, and the ability to connect narratives with numbers.
2021 - Present:
